Shelagh Baker | Physiotherapist, Toronto

Shelagh obtained a B. Sc. in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta and completed a Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney, Australia. She has Levels 1, 2 and 4 FitForeGolf; has completed the Melioguide – Building Better Bones for the prevention, treatment and management of osteoporosis and is a Licensed Provider of the Fletcher (Pilates)Towelwork®.  

Shelagh has worked in private practice in Canada and Australia with a special interest in restoring functional core stability as an integral part of teaching self-management for clients’ current symptoms, preventing further recurrences and expediting return to function, fitness and sport.


Jeff Bird | Physiotherapist, Toronto

B.A (Honours) Physical Education, B.Sc., PT - Jeff graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1994. From that time to present, he has completed his short courses in manual therapy and has taken courses in muscle release techniques, neural mobilization and peripheral manipulation. Recently certified in acupuncture from the McMaster program, Jeff is continuing to pursue cutting edge treatment techniques.

Scott graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science before completing his Master of Science degree in Physiotherapy from McMaster University in 2010. Scott is currently working towards his Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy and he has also completed further education in acupuncture, soft tissue release, and taping. Scott has experience in treating a variety of sports injuries and orthopaedic conditions and continues to live an active lifestyle by golfing, skiing, snowboarding and playing hockey.

Kayla graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Honors Specialization in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario in 2007 and completed her Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2010 at McMaster University.  Kayla is dedicated to furthering her education and is currently working towards her Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy.  She has experience treating a variety of sports injuries and orthopaedic conditions.  Being an athlete and having gone through the rehabilitation process herself, Kayla shows a particular interest in sports injuries and understands the motivation and commitment involved in returning to an active lifestyle and high level competition.  She continues to participate in a variety of recreational sports such as basketball, softball, volleyball, and snowboarding.  She has a true passion for travel and adventure and enjoys being out of her comfort zone while immersed in different cultures.

Meghan graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy in 2005. Meghan completed her Advanced Diploma in Manipulative Therapy (FCAMPT) in 2012 and is also certified in acupuncture from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (CAFCI). She has also obtained her sports certificate with Sport Physiotherapy Canada and is working towards her Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy. Prior to pursuing her degree in Physical Therapy, Meghan attended the University of Waterloo where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. While in Waterloo, she was the trainer for the Men's Varsity hockey team for two consecutive seasons. She currently works at various National and International Figure Skating events and with a local girls high school hockey team. Meghan has a strong background in competitive sport which led her to National and International level competition for Figure Skating.

Jenny graduated from Acadia University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology & Kinesiology, and graduated from Queen’s University in 2013 with a Master of Science in Physiotherapy.  Jenny is currently pursuing her Sports Certificate with Sport Physiotherapy Canada, is working toward her Manual Therapy credentials, and is also trained in Soft Tissue Release, the McKenzie Method and therapeutic taping.  Prior to joining SMS, Jenny was a staff physiotherapist at Acadia University where she was involved in the medical coverage for the varsity hockey and soccer teams.  Jenny enjoys trail running with her dog, Lu, downhill skiing and hot yoga.  


 

Sue Ellison Physiotherapist, TorontoSue Ellison | Physiotherapist, Toronto 

B.A. (Kin) B.Sc., (PT) M Sports Physio - Sue graduated from the University of Western, Ontario in 1996 with a degree in Kinesiology and in 1999 from the physiotherapy program.  In 2003, she completed a Clinical Masters of Sports Physiotherapy at the Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia.  In recent years, Sue has completed her acupuncture training and has received her Advanced Manipulative Therapy accreditation.  She is also excited to have recently added Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) to her skills as a clinician.  Sue has been actively involved in many sporting endeavours such as triathlons, distance running, and more recently dragon boating.  Since 2013, Sue has been an adjunct lecturer and unit coordinator in the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Toronto.

Alison graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from The University of Western Ontario in 2000. She later earned a Master of Health Science in Manipulative Physiotherapy from The University of Sydney in Australia in 2005.  She has taken numerous manual therapy courses including Level 3 with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, and several other special interest courses including AFCI's acupuncture, FitForeGolf, and McKenzie, to provide a varied yet effective approach to treating clients. Alison lived and worked in New York City for 5 years where she developed a special interest in treating women's health issues, including pregnancy, post-partum, pelvic pain and incontinence.  Alison has a background in taekwondo, dance and competed provincially in both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics.  She has 2 beautiful daughters and enjoys travelling, tennis, golf, snowboarding and swimming.

 

 

image   Siobhan Karam| Physiotherapist, Toronto M.H.S Physiotherapy/M.Sc.S. Physiothérapie

Siobhan graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Master of Health Sciences in Physiotherapy/Maîtrise en Sciences de la Santé en physiothérapie.  Prior to pursuing her degree in Physiotherapy, Siobhan attended the University of Windsor where she completed a Bachelor of Movement Science in Human Kinetics.  She is currently working towards completing her credentials in manual therapy.
Siobhan has an extensive background as a national and international level figure skater with 15 consecutive years of competitive experience in the discipline of ice dance.  She continues to stay involved in the sport of figure skating as a certified NCCP coach, choreographer, and Skate Canada technical specialist in the domains of Ice Dance and Single skating at all levels.  Siobhan also volunteers as physiotherapist on the medical team at several Skate Canada and International Skating Union (ISU) events throughout the competitive season. 


 

Lindsay KobusLindsay Kobus | Physiotherapist, Toronto

Lindsay graduated with a Bachelors of Health Sciences from the University of Western Ontario in 2000 and then continued her studies at Queen's University where she completed her Bachelors of Science in Physiotherapy in 2003. While at Queen's, Lindsay was the trainer for the Royal Military Colleges' Men's Volleyball team and Women's Rugby team.

Lindsay has completed many post graduate courses in manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation. She is certified in acupuncture from AFCI. Lindsay has a history of competing in many sports but spent most of her time as a synchronized swimmer and coach. Currently, Lindsay enjoys keeping active, jogging, working out and participating in anything outdoors.
